Wyndham Vale has 20,518 people (2021 Census) and, on Wyndham City's published list, one council EV charging bay. It's a 22kW charger at the Wunggurrwil Dhurrung Community Centre on Communal Road, priced at 30 cents per kWh (checked 18 October 2026). With a single bay, a wall charger at home means you aren't relying on one bay being free. How you go about it depends on whether you own or rent.
If you own your home
Wyndham Vale is almost entirely houses. Of its 7,267 private dwellings, 95.8% are separate houses and 16.5% are owned outright. The questions that matter start behind the wall.
- Speed. Powercor's electric vehicle page says a 7kW wall charger is single-phase and typically adds 30 to 40 kilometres of range for every hour of charge time. A 22kW home charger needs three-phase power.
- Your supply. Powercor's planning report says its Werribee zone substation supplies Wyndham Vale. That tells you who the network is. It doesn't tell you what your switchboard can carry, which our EV ready assessment is for.
- The board. If the assessment says the switchboard needs work first, our switchboard upgrades page explains the next step.
If you rent
Almost a third of Wyndham Vale homes (31.4%) are rented. Renters can't decide this alone. A charger is wired into the building, so it's a matter for your landlord or property manager. Ask in writing, keep their reply, and then get a quote. Until then, the council bay and any other public chargers on your charging app are your options.
The paperwork, either way
Whoever does the work must be a registered electrical contractor. Energy Safe Victoria says you should always ask to see a tradesperson's licence, and its electrical workers page shows how to check. When the job is finished, the electrician should complete a Certificate of Electrical Safety for you.
