If you drive an electric car in Hoppers Crossing, home is where most of your charging will happen. Wyndham City's published list of council chargers has no site in Hoppers Crossing itself (checked 18 October 2026). The sites it does list are in neighbouring Werribee and Tarneit. This page covers what's worth sorting out before a wall charger goes in at your place.
What's close by, and what isn't
The council sites nearest to you are a short drive away rather than around the corner. In Werribee there's a 22kW charger at the Hunter Werribee Public Carpark on Synnot Street (30 cents per kWh) and a 50kW charger at the Wyndham Civic Centre on Princes Highway (60 cents per kWh). In Tarneit there's a 50kW charger at the Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre on Polly Parade (60 cents per kWh). Wyndham also charges an idle fee of $1 a minute, starting 15 minutes after your battery is full and capped at $204, from 1 July 2026. The full rate table is on the Wyndham City EV charger page.
A trip across suburbs every time the battery runs low gets old quickly. A charger on your own wall means you leave with a full battery each morning.
How fast a home charger is, in Powercor's own numbers
Powercor's electric vehicle page sets out the options:
| Way of charging | What Powercor says |
|---|---|
| Ordinary power point | About 10 to 15 km of range per hour |
| 7kW wall charger (single-phase) | Typically 30 to 40 km of range per hour |
| 22kW home charger | Needs three-phase power, so it's not suitable for all customers |
Powercor's electric vehicle page has the detail. Powercor's own planning report lists Hoppers Crossing among the areas supplied by its Werribee and Laverton zone substations, so that's the network page that applies to you.
Your house comes first
At the 2021 Census, Hoppers Crossing had 13,970 private dwellings, and 84.7% of them were separate houses. That usually means a garage or carport wall to mount a charger on. The 7.3% living in flats or units face a different set of questions, and we'd rather talk those through before anyone quotes.
Whatever the house, what matters is what your switchboard and supply can carry. That's the purpose of an EV ready assessment, and it's worth doing before you pick a charger. Our EV charger installation guide walks through the rest of the process.
What a proper install involves
Energy Safe Victoria says you must engage a registered electrical contractor for installation work, and that you should always ask to see a tradesperson's licence. Their electrical workers guidance explains why. You should also be given a Certificate of Electrical Safety when the job is done. Ask your electrician which certificate applies to your job.
