Why This Package Matters

Safety First

Many older homes don't have adequate safety switches or smoke alarm coverage. These upgrades protect your family from electric shock, electrocution, and house fires.

Legal Compliance

Victorian regulations require safety switches on all circuits and photoelectric smoke alarms in all bedrooms, hallways, and living areas. Non-compliance can affect insurance claims.

Peace of Mind

Know that your new home meets current safety standards. Identify any hidden electrical problems before they become expensive emergencies.

Insurance Protection

Some insurance policies require compliant electrical installations. This package ensures you meet those requirements and protects your coverage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in the $899 fixed price?

The package includes installation of up to 3 RCD safety switches, installation or replacement of up to 5 photoelectric smoke alarms (interconnected), comprehensive electrical safety inspection, written report, and EESS compliance certificate. If your home requires additional safety switches or smoke alarms beyond these quantities, we'll provide a quote for the extra units before proceeding.

Do I really need safety switches if my home already has circuit breakers?

Yes. Circuit breakers protect against overload and short circuits, but they don't protect people from electric shock. RCD safety switches detect current leakage and cut power in 30 milliseconds — fast enough to prevent fatal electrocution. Current Victorian regulations require RCDs on all circuits in domestic properties.

Why photoelectric smoke alarms specifically?

Victorian legislation (since 2017) requires photoelectric smoke alarms because they're more effective at detecting smouldering fires — the type most common in bedrooms where people are sleeping. Ionisation alarms (the old type) are slower to detect these fires and are no longer compliant for new installations or replacements.

What if the inspection finds problems?

We provide a detailed written report of any issues found, categorised by urgency (immediate safety hazard, non-compliant but not urgent, or recommendations for improvement). You're under no obligation to have us fix them, but we'll provide clear pricing for any additional work. Common findings in older homes include: non-compliant switchboards, inadequate earthing, old wiring that should be replaced, or poorly installed DIY electrical work.

How long does it take?

Typically 2-3 hours depending on the size of your home and accessibility of the switchboard. We aim to complete everything in a single visit, but occasionally if we discover significant issues or your switchboard needs replacement, we may need to schedule a follow-up visit with your approval.

Is this package suitable for apartments?

Partially. Apartments have shared responsibility for electrical safety — the body corporate typically manages common area smoke alarms and the main switchboard. We can inspect and upgrade your individual apartment's electrical, but we can't access or modify body corporate electrical infrastructure without their approval. Call us to discuss your specific situation.

What's an EESS certificate?

The Electrical and Electronic Safety Scheme (EESS) is Victoria's electrical licensing and compliance system. An EESS certificate is an official record that electrical work has been completed by a licensed electrician in accordance with Australian Standards. It's proof that your electrical installation is safe and compliant, which can be important for insurance claims or future property sales.
